Struggling to Find Identity or Purpose in Life

Here, I discuss the power of finding your purpose, and the importance of not forcing yourself into a label.

There are just so many labels, right? The lists seem endless.

All throughout my life, I have been struggling to find purpose and a strong sense of identity, which can often be heartbreaking. I know I am a Christian, a sister, a daughter, a granddaughter, a niece, and a cousin. I’m a lover, a writer, an old soul, a dreamer, an overthinker, and a sentimental ball of emotions (with maybe just a little too much neuroticism—sorry, everyone that knows me personally).

All jokes aside, It is unfortunate I can think of so many ways to identify myself, but that is simply a by-product of the way our society functions.

Our society is gravely obsessed with people putting labels on themselves, and this can be detrimental to people’s mental health. Instead, I think we should be turning our focus on our purpose in our lives. I know that the purpose of my life is to learn how to be a better person every day, make a positive impact on people around me, and put my heart and soul into everything I do. 💖

Even though I can’t see the future and how those goals will play out, they are very attainable and nothing can stop me from making those things happen. As far as my career goes, I want to end up in a profession that ensures I help other people; perhaps something like counselling. The only thing that I am absolutely sure of is that I want to spread love and put nothing but kindness into a world that can feel so overridden with hatred and malice.

Things like labels or trying to identify yourself in a specific category are too limiting; you should believe that you are also much more than whatever label you see yourself as. With the hope of abandoning those labels, I simply hope to be myself. I hope to accept even the darkest parts of my soul—the parts that are highly flawed and riddled with imperfection after imperfection.

With all that being said, I hope that through reading my writings, you find peace, happiness, and an appreciation for a different way of seeing the world. Most importantly, I encourage you to never forget your worth. You deserve to see the same light within yourself that everyone around you can already see. Imagine yourself in the way you imagine your loved ones—and watch as you bloom into everything beautiful you were always meant to be.

No one on earth can ever control your self-worth, your identity, or your life purpose quite like you can.

"She has been feeling it for awhile now—that sense of awakening. There is a gentle rage simmering inside her, and it is getting stronger by the day. She will hold it close to her—she will nurture it and let it grow. She won't let anyone take it away from her. It is her rocket fuel and finally, she is going places. She can feel it down to her very core—this is her time. She will not only climb mountains—she will move them too." –Lang Leav ♥︎ Copyright © Samantha Arden Lockheart // Copyright © Samantha Ann Fuchsgruber [Founder of Lockheart Arden Publishing; Est.
